YAVAPAI COLLEGE – RAISING A READER

MISSION:

The Raising a Reader mission is to engage parents in a routine of daily “book cuddling” with their children from birth to age five to foster healthy brain development, parent-child bonding, and early literacy skills critical for school success.

AGENCY SELF-DESCRIPTION:

Our early literacy program partners with childcare providers in the Yavapai Region to distribute and rotate book bags containing age appropriate books to be taken home by young children, ages birth-5, and shared by the families. Training is also provided to childcare professionals and parents on the importance of early brain development, the acquisition of language skills and simple book sharing techniques. At the conclusion of the book bag rotation cycle, families are also introduced to their local library with a special visit and library book bag.
