From a small outpatient clinic in 1939, Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood has grown into a full-service, 99-bed, nonprofit hospital serving Northern Arizona. Four locations serve the Verde Valley: Cottonwood, Sedona, Camp Verde and the Village of Oak Creek.   More than 800 professional and support staff are employed at VVMC. The medical staff is comprised of nearly 100 physicians representing 25 medical specialties. VVMC is accredited by DNV, licensed by the state of Arizona and certified by Medicare. VVMC is a member of Northern Arizona Healthcare, which also provides healthcare services through Flagstaff Medical Center, Verde Valley Medical Clinic, Team Health, Northern Arizona Homecare and Northern Arizona Hospice, The Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona, Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare, Fit Kids of Arizona and Guardian Air.   WOMEN AND INFANTS SERVICES At Verde Valley Medical Center, medical professionals and certified services are dedicated to keeping you and your baby safe before, during and after delivery. The Perinatal Services Department is held to the highest standards, and features state of the art equipment and specially trained physicians and nurses who are committed to their patients. Women's Surgical Services and Maternity and Family Services offered at VVMC include complete care to the mother and family.   VVMC’s certified Level One Perinatal Center includes labor and delivery, obstetric, nursery and pediatric units. Board certified obstetricians and physicians are credentialed to provide obstetrical care, and all core staff members are cross-trained to labor and delivery, mother and infant, and the continuing care nursery. All nursing staff members are BLS, NRP and STABLE certified, with approximately one-third of the nursing staff ACLS certified.   Healthy Babies Program Phone: 928-639-6657 Website: VerdeValleyMedicalCenter.com/OurServices/Maternity/Programs               The Healthy Babies Program is an outreach support service provided by VVMC to assist parents who are expecting or have a new baby in their family. Babies don’t come with instructions, but the nurses from VVMC’s Healthy Babies program do. As you prepare for your baby’s arrival, and after your baby is born, the experienced perinatal educators work with your physician to provide assessment, education and support for mothers making the transition from pregnancy to parenthood. All care and instructions are delivered in the familiar surroundings of your home. This program is provided by VVMC at no cost to all parents and babies we serve. Please call us to make an appointment, which can be scheduled at your home or at the VVMC Perinatal Unit. Healthy Babies Prenatal Home Visit includes: Nutritional and dietary needs review Tips to keep you comfortable during pregnancy Ways to help you and your baby stay healthy Suggestions on how to prepare for your baby’s arrival Information on recognizing the signs and symptoms of labor Information about community resources During the prenatal visit, the nurse also will provide information concerning community resources such childbirth classes, a list of physicians, conduct a brief assessment of the mother-to-be, and answer questions and address concerns you may have. In addition, the nurse will follow-up with you and your baby once you return home. During the postnatal visit, your nurse will do a physical assessment of your baby, provide developmental information, and answer any questions you may have.   Mother/Baby Home Visit includes: Assessment and care for you and your baby How to feed and bathe your baby Advice to help siblings and pets adjust to a new baby Instructions on child-proofing your home Breastfeeding support with a lactation consultation Skilled care for premature babies and newborns Emotional support for you and your family   Verde Valley Parenting Partnership - Healthy Families             Healthy Families is a voluntary, free home-visitation program that helps families foster self-sufficiency, encourage parent-child relationships, find community resources, address health, safety and developmental needs and promote literacy and school readiness.             Healthy Families is funded by a grant from First Things First to ensure all of Arizona’s young children are healthy and ready to succeed in school. Verde Valley Medical Center and First Things First partner with Verde Valley parents to help meet family needs through a voluntary, free home-visitation program.  The program is offered to mothers-to-be and those with babies newborn to three months. Families stay in the program through the child’s fifth year. This series of classes will help you understand the labor process and better prepare for the birth and care of your infant. Childbirth instructors are registered nurses who also work in labor and delivery at VVMC. The hospital encourages you to begin your first class in your seventh month of pregnancy. Childbirth education classes are for you and your support person. Topics covered through the series include prenatal care, the labor process, breathing techniques, possible complications, the delivery process, breastfeeding techniques and infant care.   Teen Childbirth Classes             Be prepared for your baby’s birth by attending a series of three classes focused on teen moms-to-be and your support person.        Topics covered through the series include prenatal care, the labor process, breathing techniques, possible complications, the delivery process, breastfeeding techniques and infant care.
