COALITION FOR COMPASSION AND JUSTICE (CCJ)

MISSION:

To provide vital services, education and advocacy for those living in poverty, leading to self-sufficiency and a fair and just community for all.

AGENCY SELF-DESCRIPTION:

CCJ seeks to eliminate poverty from the greater Prescott area by developing a compassionate coalition of indivduals and organizations dedicated to establishing a future for our community in which all people are able to meet basic needs and are encouraged, supported and empowered toward self-sufficiency. CCJ seeks to champion those in need by identifying and helping break the barriers that contribute to and sustain the injustice of poverty.

Programs: Special programs such as Yavapai Diaper Drive (May/June diaper and wipes drive), Fair Start (July school supply drive), Warm for Winter (October outerwear and blanket drive), and Family Christmas (December gifts). Another child-oriented program is Weekend Family Food, provided through local preschools and child-care facilities, providing weekend nutrition bags to children in food-insecure households. All services are intended for families who are struggling economically and could not afford to provide these things without assistance.CCJ Circles of Support for Families Book Before Bed is a mentoring program for low income parents of preschool children. It seeks to help parents develop encouraging practices that foster a love of reading in youngsters and the program seeks to provide resources that will enable a family to enrich their lives.
