YOUNG VOICES BE HEARD

MISSION:

The Young Voices Be Heard mission is to enrich rural school districts and performing arts communities in Arizona with the empowerment of our young people's expression through spoken word and other literary arts.

AGENCY SELF-DESCRIPTION:

We support our communities' youth with free programming in spoken word, slam poetry and creative writing. Under the non-profit protection of LARC: Literary Arts for Rural Communities, Young Voices Be Heard is here so young people have the opportunity to speak their hearts and minds! We use poetry and spoken word as a vehicle to deliver life-essential tools to our communities' youth. We empower and encourage our students to express whatever is on their minds through the creative outlet of written and spoken word, while creating a safe environment for their needs. We provide free public programming for youth ages 13-19 in poetry, spoken word performance, slam poetry, creative writing and general enrichment through the literary arts. We host weekly meetings as well as workshops, cool poetry events, high school and middle school assemblies, and monthly poetry slams, throughout most of the year. Please contact us if you would like to know more about us or getting involved! General Information We have youth poetry classes that meet every Thursday at the Sedona Public Library in the Quiet Room, 4-6pm, barring holidays. Our youth poetry slams are monthly, every second Thursday of each month at our local hometown venue, Java Love Cafe. Weekly classes and monthly slams are open to all styles of writers, poets, lyricists, and spoken word artists between the ages of 13-19.
