PEOPLE WHO CARE

MISSION: People Who Care has three community program areas where volunteers help our Neighbors in the community where they both live -  Chino Valley, Prescott, Prescott Valley and Dewey. Volunteers help in a one to one relationships with the Neighbor they are working with who is not able to drive due to a physical limitation such as a chronic illness, a disability or limitations of aging.  AGENCY SELF-DESCRIPTION: All prospective clients are required to go through a two-step enrollment process which entails a telephone interview with the area Program Manager and a visit in their home with a trained volunteer Intake Coordinator. All prospective volunteers are required to attend a two-hour orientation and submit a detailed written application. An online court records check and a sexual predator check will be conducted including reference calls and random background checks prior to enrolling them as volunteers. Volunteers help adults with: Essential Transportation, Grocery Shopping, Personal Paperwork, Reassurance Phone Calls, Neighborly Visits and Home Safety Visits. All of the volunteer outreach is done on a one to one basis and there is never any change for the help that is provided. Volunteers use their own cars when providing transportation and currently are not being reimbursed for the cost of gas. Volunteers so what they can, when they can!  Many volunteers who help with rides prefer to be called on an oncall basis, while others prefer to help the same Neighbor on an ongoing  basis.  If the parent is unable to drive due to a physical limitation, the parent may enroll as a Neighbor (client) of People Who Care. This would apply to any adult person in our service areas who has this limitation. If the parent needs to take the children to a healthcare appointment, we would provide a ride for the parent and the child. However, when the parent is needing assistance with transportation to a healthcare appointment or with grocery shopping, arrangements for child care should be arranged.
Additional Services:  The Chino Valley Program at the Chino Valley United Methodist Church helps to staff the Durable Medical Equipment Loan Closet.  There is no charge for use of the equipment that is loaned to residents in the Quad-city Area.
