HIGHLANDS CENTER FOR NATURAL HISTORY

MISSION:

The Highlands Center for Natural History helps children and adults discover the wonders of nature and become wise caretakers of the land. We believe that everyone has a fundamental need to connect with the natural world. This connection is fostered by the Center through outdoor science education based on observation and discovery of the Central Arizona Highlands.

AGENCY SELF-DESCRIPTION:

Assisted wheelchair accessible facility and trail at the Lynx Creek site. Hearing impaired enhancement for trail walks, etc. Programs take place at an 80-acre campus in the Prescott National Forest's Lynx Lake Recreation Area.  

Education: Outdoor science education field trips for homeschool groups, Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 4th Grade, and 7th Grade. Schoolyard Habitat Program for grades K-8 at local elementary and middle schools. F.U.N. (Friends Understanding Nature) Summer, Fall, and Spring Break Camps for children ages 4-15. Year-round community programming for mixed age general public audiences. Additional custom educational programs available upon request for community groups, such as clubs, business, organizations, and scouts.

Enrichment: Programs for school and non-school youth enrich the quality of life by building skills, self-esteem and success through healthy opportunities for hands-on, outdoor learning.
