Main Street, Suite 1-H, Cottonwood, AZ 86326 MISSION: Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is to enhance the lives of children through quality mentoring relationships. Many children grow up without the time, attention and direction they need from caring adults. Through a private, nonprofit organization, screened volunteers act as friends, mentors and role models to school-aged children who are predominately from single-parent homes. These relationships are supported by a professional staff. AGENCY SELF-DESCRIPTION: Big Brothers Big Sisters is the single most effective way to positively impact the life of a child. Research tells us that compared to all other youth their age, boys and girls matched with a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Family Match are nearly 40% less likely to get arrested. In addition, compared to their peers, matched youth are: 46% less likely to start using drugs 27% less likely to start drinking 33% less likely to skip a day of school While youngsters living in single parent families are twice as likely to be arrested, Yavapai County Court records show that our matched Little Brothers and Sisters are arrested nearly 40% less often than all other youth in our community. Today, there are children in every school and every community throughout Yavapai County and Sedona who are ready to be matched with a "Big."
